Title: “Faithful in the Sowing”
Scripture: First Epistle to the Corinthians 3:6–9
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”
Devotional Thought
We all walk through seasons where discouragement creeps in—especially when it feels like we’re pouring out, sharing the gospel, and seeing little to no visible fruit.
Maybe you’ve had that quiet thought: “Is anything actually happening?”
You’re not alone in that.
Seed sowing is hard work. It requires patience, consistency, and trust. At times, it can feel like we’re scattering seeds onto hard ground—places where nothing seems to take root. But even in the most unlikely places—like a crack in the sidewalk—a seed can find life and grow.
That’s the mystery and the beauty of what God does.
First Epistle to the Corinthians reminds us of something grounding and freeing: we are not responsible for the outcome. One plants, another waters—but God brings the growth.
This shifts everything.
Discouragement begins to lose its grip when we remember that success isn’t measured by what we see—it’s measured by our obedience. Faith isn’t in results; it’s in trusting that God is working, even when we can’t.
Some seasons aren’t about visible harvest at all. Some are about preparation.
God prepares the soil.
He cultivates hearts.
He lets in the light—slowly, intentionally.
And He does the same within us.
So the question becomes not only, “What am I sowing?” but also, “What am I receiving?”
What seeds are being planted in your own heart?
What truth, light, and grace are you allowing God to grow within you?
Preparation is not lesser work—it is essential work. Cultivating, waiting, tending… these are sacred parts of the process.
Reflection Questions
-
Where have I been feeling discouraged in sowing seeds?
-
Am I measuring faithfulness by results or by obedience?
-
What seeds am I allowing to be planted in my own heart right now?
-
Could this season be one of preparation rather than harvest?
Prayer
Father,
When I grow weary in sowing, remind me that You are the One who brings the growth.
Help me to stay faithful in obedience, even when I cannot see the fruit.
Replace my discouragement with trust.
Strengthen my faith—not in outcomes, but in You.
Prepare the soil of hearts around me, and also within me.
Let Your light in, and grow what You desire in Your perfect time.
I trust You with the process.
I trust You with the harvest.
Amen.
Daily Practice
Today, focus on one simple act of obedience—whether it’s sharing encouragement, speaking truth, or spending time in prayer.
Release the results to God.
Then take a moment to sit quietly and ask:
“Lord, what are You growing in me right now?”
